This year, the Lord Mayor of Liverpool Councillor William Shortall, is supporting The Greenbank Project as his official charity for 2026/27. As the first wheelchair user to serve as Lord Mayor in the city’s 816-year history, Cllr Shortall’s appointment highlights a changing Liverpool and the importance of inclusion, accessibility and representation. Greenbank works with disabled people and disadvantaged groups across Liverpool and the surrounding area, helping them build confidence, develop skills, take part in sport and recreation, and access opportunities that can change lives.
About The Greenbank Project
Greenbank is a Liverpool‑based charity that has, for more than 40 years, championed inclusion, independence and opportunity for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions.
Through Greenbank College and Greenbank Sports Academy, the charity delivers inclusive education, sport, training and community programmes which empower thousands of local people every year to build confidence, develop skills and access opportunities that may otherwise lie out of reach.
In a city that prides itself on looking after its own, Greenbank holds the door of possibility open for those who need it most, helping to ensure Liverpool remains a place where everyone can thrive.
Who your support helps
Greenbank is particularly supportive of disabled people and disadvantaged groups, offering opportunities that may otherwise be difficult to access. As an organisation run by and for disabled people, Greenbank has a deep understanding of the issues and barriers these groups can face.
Through the College and Sports Academy, Greenbank supports learners, families, disabled children and adults, community groups, schools and people looking for inclusive ways to build skills, confidence, physical activity and independence.

Donate to the Lord Mayor’s Charity Appeal
Every donation to the Lord Mayor of Liverpool’s Charity Appeal helps support The Greenbank Project’s work through Greenbank College and Greenbank Sports Academy. Donations will help Greenbank continue providing inclusive education, training, employment support, sport and recreational opportunities for disabled people and disadvantaged groups.
Greenbank relies on funding to continue this work, including investment in specialist staff, adaptive equipment, accessible facilities and tailored support. Your support, however big or small, helps keep these opportunities available for people across Liverpool and the surrounding area.
